Cougs Cut Ties with Recruit

PULLMAN, Wash. -  The Washington State Cougars are cutting ties with 2008 quarterback recruit Calvin Schmidtke.  The Cougars are releasing him from his National Letter of Intent after learning he's facing charges of possible DUI, minor in possession of alcohol, and posession of marijuana.  Cougars' head coach Paul Wulff released the following statement late Tuesday night:

"We have begun the process to allow Calvin the opportunity to be released from his National Letter of Intent and pursue his academic and athletic opportunities at another university," said Wulff. "We feel this is in the best interest of both Washington State University and Calvin. We wish him well with his future endeavors."

Schmidtke, from Lakes High School in Lakewood, Wash., was one of 25 student-athletes signed to National Letters of Intent by Wulff last February.
