KENNEWICK, Wash. - A young boy riding his bike to school Wednesday in Kennewick got hit by a car and was taken to the hospital.
It happened around 7:30 a.m. on 10th Avenue in front of Park Middle School.
The 12-year-old boy slammed into the windshield, and flew about 40 feet from the spot of the crash. Paramedics took him to Kennewick General Hospital.
Right now it's not clear who was at fault, but police encourage drivers to watch out for kids crossing the street.
"Even though we only got a week and a half left of school just be extra careful. A lot more kids are walking, a lot more kids are riding their bikes, and the weather being nice, so be cautious going through school zones," said Sgt. Ken Lattin, Kennewick Police Dept.
Police said it doesn't appear drugs or alcohol were involved. Right now they're trying to determine how fast the car was going.
School zone warning lights were flashing in the area, which means the speed limit was 20 miles per hour.
