Richland Police Now Text Messaging Citizen Alerts

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash.-- People living in Richland can now get alerts from police through text messages and e-mails.

It's part of the Richland Police Department's new Citizen Alert Program. To get these messages all you have to do is go to the Richland police web site and sign up online.

Officers say this is a faster way to get information to the public about crime trends, and public safety emergencies. It's also a potential way for many people to help police solve a crime.

"Somebody always knows something and it's a real easy way for them to respond back, they can submit a tip to us and give us the information we're looking for," said Officer Erica Tungesvik, with the Richland Police Department.

You can also submit pictures and suspect information on the site, and remain anonymous. Police say there's a section for business alerts and specific neighborhoods.

This Citizen Alert Program is free.
