Brush Fire Forces Homes to Evacuate

Posted: Updated:

SELAH, Wash. -- It was a scary scene for some homeowners in Selah this morning when a brush fire came dangerously close to some homes.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control before it reached any homes, but they still felt it necessary to evacuate people living near the fire.

Homeowners we spoke with were still shaken up as they described the scene. They say they smelled smoke went outside and saw the fire rapidly moving towards their homes. That's when they grabbed their children and pets and left.

Firefighters are still investigating how the fire started.

Some residents say a neighbor was burning weeds just over the hill. They think today's high winds might have caused the fire to get out of control.

That hasn't been confirmed yet by fire officials.
