Volunteers Help Restore Historic Building

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Volunteers gathered at State Fair Park in Yakima today to help landscape the grounds around the Modern Living building.

The volunteer hours are being used to secure a 48-thousand-dollar grant to help restore the historic building.

It was built in 1937 and it's now beginning to look rundown. The building is used year-round for meetings for many organizations. It's also been the site of many weddings.

Central Washington Fair Association board members say this is a much needed renovation.

"This was the original state fair grounds in 1892, so we want to preserve that ambiance of the old state fair," said Board President Greg Stewart.

The state fair board is hosting a Sunshine And Wine party on June 21st. Money raised from the annual event is also going to restore the modern living building.
