Yakima Waste Systems Almost Done With Recycling Revamp
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima Waste Systems is just one route away from completely changing their recycling program from a three-bin system to a "one-cart-fits-all" system.
In the past, customers who paid for curbside recycling had to sort glass, plastics, and paper into three separate bins. For the past month, Yakima Waste has been giving people a single bin to put their recyclables.
However, they no longer take glass products because workers would be at-risk of cutting their hands while sorting.
Employees estimate the conversion cost more than $500,000.
