You May have to Wait Six Months for Your Child's Doctor Appointment
YAKIMA, Wash - Doctor appointments are being cut at Children's Village due to Horizon flight cancellations.
Doctors from Children's Hospital in Seattle fly into Yakima to provide services that Yakima does not have. But now with the high fuel prices Horizon Airlines has had to cut flights leaving doctors unable to arrive in Yakima in the morning. Now doctors have less time to see patients.
The earliest flight is at 11:15am. Doctors were seeing about twelve patients a day and now they only have time to see about eight a day. Children's Village says if you want an appointment for certain services you will have to wait six months.
Doctors are now looking for alternatives. Some drive five hours round trip and then pay for a motel room. One doctor has cancelled half of his appointments because he does not have the extra time.
Parents of the children are either driving to Seattle to see their doctor or not seeing their doctor at all.
Children's Village is now losing money. They say they are very concerned about their patients that are unable to get the treatment they need.
