KENNEWICK, Wash.--TJ Maxx security staff realized 20-year-old Carlos Adrian Guzman had been taking money over time. The grand total..$25,000 dollars.
Kennewick police officers say store video cameras showed how Guzman flew under the radar for so long.
He apparently would process a return without a customer and then pocket the cash.
Police say internal thefts are somewhat common, although usually the thief is caught sooner rather than after a year's time.
"Having employee thefts, unfortunately, is not rare," says Kennewick police Sergeant Brian Swartswalter. But typically, things catch up with them a lot quicker than it did with this gentleman. And what he was doing wasn't any particularly a clever thing."
Sergeant Swartswalter says that Guzman was booked into the Benton County Jail on a 72-hour-hold. He now faces First Degree Theft.
