UNION GAP, Wash. -- Sixteenth Avenue in Yakima will remain open for now, but the city of Union Gap says they are going ahead with phase three of the Valley Mall Boulevard Expansion Project.
A portion of Sixteenth Avenue between Washington and Ahtanum Road was supposed to close tomorrow, but contractors are still waiting on permits.
Union Gap mayor says the sooner we begin, the sooner we will see the benefits.
"It'll actually work out better for the long run. It'll give them a better route, a quicker route. It will actually be good in the long run," said mayor Jim Lemon.
