American Red Cross in Pasco to Promote Summer Donations
PASCO, Wash.-- Many people forget to donate blood in the summer. Blood donations are needed in the summer because that's typically when there is more of a demand for blood.
Nurses at the American Red Cross say they lose a large number of donors when school is out. Red Cross relies on high schools and colleges for a lot of its blood supply during the school year, but in the summer, it's left dry.
A nurse with the American Red Cross, Pauline Brewer, says, "With vacations and holidays, and people hopefully not having too many accidents, there's a greater need during those holiday months to have more blood on hand." Also, regulars to the Bloodmobile often go on vacation and change their blood donation routine.
You can donate blood once every two months, and it only takes one pint to save several lives.
If you are interested in donating call the American Red Cross at 1- 800- GIVE- LIFE or visit www.nwblood.redcross.org to schedule a time and place to donate.
