KENNEWICK, Wash.-- On Thursday Ben Franklin Transit will offer free bus rides all day, all this in honor of National Dump the Pump Day.
Staff at BFT say more than a 130 transit centers around the country are going to be a part of the event. The whole point is to try and get people to ride the bus and become more familiar with public transportation. But it's also a way to save money.
"It's expected that an average family can save $6,200 a year on gasoline by getting out of their cars and using public transportation so this was a way to encourage people to try it if nothing else," said Christy Watts, with Ben Franklin Transit.
Dump the Pump Day started three years ago. It's sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association.
Ben Franklin Transit staff say they will also have free cookies for all riders on Thursday, at the Customer Service Office, inside the Three Rivers Transit Center in Kennewick.
