YAKIMA, Wash. -- Randy Dorn made campaign stops in Eastern Washington today. He's running for superintendent of Public Instruction for Washington schools.
Dorn is a former elementary and high school teacher and principal. He also served seven years in the House of Representatives, where he was chairman of the House Education Committee.
Dorn says if elected the first thing he'll change is the Washington assessment of student learning.
"It needs to be diagnostic. It's not diagnostic now," said Dorn. "It doesn't tell students, parents, and teachers where their weaknesses are so they can actually improve the learning."
