Five-Year-Old Boy Attacked by Rottweiler in Stable Condition

YAKIMA, Wash.- A young boy was attacked by a dog yesterday at his home on the 1200 block of south 7th Street. The five-year-old boy and his three-year-old sister were playing outside with their small dog when a Rottweiler attacked the boy. The little sister ran in to call her mother and when the mother came outside she said she saw the Rottweiler biting her son's head.

The mother hit the dog with a stick until he released her son and she immediately called 911. Yakima Police Department says the boy has large wounds on his head, chest and neck. His torn shoulder was so deep some muscle and tissue were exposed.

"I just feel sorry for him and I feel sorry for the family. It's terrible," said neighbor Martin Schmidt.

Schmidt says there aren't many stray dogs walking around and that this was the first reported attack in the area.

The young boy is still at Memorial Hospital and Yakima Police Department says he has been in stable condition since last night. The Rottweiler's owner says the dog has no history of aggression. The Rottweiler was taken away by the Yakima Police Department and Animal Control.
