Port of Kennewick Waits To Make Decisions About Vista Field Airport
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Port of Kennewick Commissioners say they're waiting to respond back to the State Department of Transportation about a study of Vista Field.
The study won't be finished until July of next year. DOT has asked the port to decide whether or not they will take action before this date.
On Tuesday Port Commissioners also said they're waiting for a response from the city, since they have no written records yet. Port Commissioners say if the port decides to shut down Vista Field they want to have a mitigation committee, for any businesses that may be affected.
"Here are some alternatives you have if Vista Field closed of how to keep these businesses, and you know we have two other airports maybe one of those airports could take over those jobs or maybe not," said Tim Arntzen, Port Executive Director.
Arntzen also talked about a letter sent to the Department of Transportation from the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. In this letter the AOPA asked the state to honor a grant they made to the airport and keep it open for as long as they see fit.
