YAKIMA, Wash. - T. J. Hose allowed just one earned run in five innings, but the Vancouver Canadians survived five errors to beat the Yakima Bears 4-3 in final game of a five-game series at Yakima County Stadium Thursday night.
Despite giving up just three hits with a walk and four strikeouts, Hose finished the fifth inning trailing 2-1 after Vancouver took the lead on two Yakima errors. The Bears came back to tie the game 2-2 when the Canadians made two errors the next half inning.
Yakima went ahead 3-2 in the sixth on a two-out RBI single by Greg Bordes off the glove of diving third baseman Rodney Rutherford. However, Vancouver took the lead for good in the seventh with two runs on Mitch LeVier's RBI single and a run scoring fielder's choice by Jareck West, who beat out the Bears' attempt at an inning ending double play.
Jose Guzman pitched two scoreless innings for the save, including stranding the Bears' potential tying run on third base in the ninth.
Vancouver took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI triple by Dante Love, but Roberto Rodriguez tied the score in the third with an RBI single to centerfield.The Bears travel to Boise for a three-game series with the Hawks at Memorial Stadium Friday night at 6:15, with Ricardo Tavares on the mound for Yakima.
