PASCO, Wash. - After two consecutive wins highlighted by dramatic come from behind rallies, the Tri-City Dust Devils weren't able to overcome a two run deficit in the ninth as Salem Keizer took the final game of the series 5-3 at Gesa Stadium. In front of a lively Thirsty Thursday crowd, the Dust Devils let a victory get away from them as they gave up a season high four unearned runs in the final two innings.
The Dust Devils got on the scoreboard in the third inning after Patrick Rose was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a Charles Blackmon double. Salem-Keizer answered with a run in the seventh. Bradley McAtee hit Casey Bond with a pitch to start the inning. After Bond stole second, Eliezer Zambrano singled to center field, scoring Bond.
Austin Rauch led off the Dust Devils' half of the seventh inning with a single. After Rauch reached second on a fielder's choice, Blackmon was intentionally walked. Jordan Pacheco made the Volcanoes pay as he laced a single to center field scoring Rauch and Blackmon to give the Dust Devils a 3-1 lead.
The lead wouldn't last long as Salem-Keizer loaded the bases to open the eighth inning. Three runs would come around to score after a passed ball by Pacheco and throwing error by Rose. The Volcanoes added another run in the ninth after Rose committed his second throwing error of the night.
McAtee (1-1) takes the loss for the Dust Devils despite allowing just three hits and one earned run through four innings. Andy Reichard (2-0) picked up the win for the Volcanoes.
The Dust Devils will travel to Spokane on Friday to take on the Indians in a three game series. The two teams are currently tied for first place in the East Division and best overall record in the Northwest League at 7-3. Tri-City will return home on Monday, June 30th to take on the Boise Hawks. June 2nd will feature an Independence Day post-game fireworks show.
