Vancouver, Wash. Resident Wins Javelin Competition at Trials
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Vancouver, Washington resident Kara Patterson is Beijing-bound. Last night in Eugene, she threw a U.S. Olympic trials record 191 feet, 9 inches in the javelin to place first. That makes her the top qualifier for the Olympic team. University of Oregon standout Rachel Yurkovitch of Newberg was also on the medal stand with a third place finish, but she isn't headed to China. She didn't make the A Olympic standard qualifying mark.
