OREGON, - Starting July 1st, people in Oregon need to meet stricter requirements to renew their license.
Until now, Oregonians only needed an expired card to renew their license, but now drivers will have to show proof of citizenship in the U.S., such as a birth certificate or passport.
Oregonians also need to show proof of a social security number and full legal name. If the person is not entitled to a social security number, they'll have to bring in immigration documents.
Department of Motor Vehicles representatives say they realize transactions are going to take longer and they will have to turn people away, but say it will help prevent fraudulent activity.
The DMV is also phasing in the use of facial recognition software to prevent individuals from obtaining a license under more than one name.
