KENNEWICK, Wash.-- More organic food is popping up in the stores, and more organic farms are popping up in Washington.
Washington State University's Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources says the number of acres of organic farms in Washington rose 27 percent in the last year. There are now 700 organic farms in Washington growing $144-million worth of food.
There still aren't as many organic farms as other farms. There are around 34,000 other farms, which in 2006 grew $6.87 billion worth of food.
