Washington State Patrol Looking For Witnesses In Fatal Crash

Posted: Updated:

The Washington State Patrol wants to find anyone who witnessed a recent fatal car accident. Troopers say they still don't know how the accident happened.

So far they say the accident happened on Monday around noon, on State Route 12 in Columbia county about nine miles East of Dayton.

15-year-old Chianne Griffen-Gaede was a passenger in a car that rear ended a semi stopped for construction on the road. The driver was 19-year-old Heather Hancock.

Troopers say everyone in the car was wearing a seatbelt. The Major Accident Investigation Team is now asking for any witnesses to come forward with details about the accident.

"We want to make sure we've talked to everybody we can, we've left no stones unturned during any fatality investigation so we can provide some closure to all the families involved," said Lieutenant Jay Cabezuela, with the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers also say the driver and passenger might have been text messaging in the car at the time of the accident. If you have any information on the crash you are asked to call the Washington State Patrol.
