Slow Drag Races in Pasco

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash-- When you hear drag races you usually think speed, but today at the 2nd Annual Show and Shine several classic car enthusiasts raced in slow drags to see who could start their engines and get to the finish line last.

They also used pyrotechnics to blow up a car engine using a cylinder block causing spectators to take bets on how long it would take.

"Start it up, throw a cylinder block on the accelerator petal, and let it run until she blows up," said Rick Long, Show and Shine Event Coordinator.

The director of the event says the average classic car rebuild takes about five years and many of the cars shown started in junk yards before being totally reconstructed.
