Arrest Made, Victim's Name Released in Toppenish Gang Shooting

TOPPENISH, Wash. -- A 25-year-old hispanic man was arrested Sunday night for the murder of a fellow gang member.

Toppenish Police received a tip the suspect was hiding at a home on the 2000 Block of South Fork Road in Yakima. With help from the Yakima Police Department's SWAT team and the Yakima Sheriff's Office, an arrest was made at about 11:00 p.m. Sunday after a brief stand-off.

The apprehension was made using non-lethal weapons. Neither the suspect or officers were injured.

The suspect was wanted in connection with a shooting that killed Alejandro Salas, 24, of Toppenish. Salas was shot on the 10 Block of West 3rd Avenue in Toppenish at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Police said Salas and the suspect were members of the same gang.
