Police Still Trying to Identify Body Found in Sunnyside
YAKIMA, WASH. - Yakima Sheriffs are still trying to identify the woman whose body was found dead in an irrigation canal in Sunnyside on Friday.
An autopsy was performed on the body Monday. The Yakima County Coroner says the autopsy indicated she had been shot in the chest less than a week before her body was found.
She was found floating face down in an irrigation ditch north of Emerald Road.
Investigators think her body had been in the water anywhere from 24 to 48 hours.
The woman is described as a Hispanic woman between ages 18 and 24. She was about 5'3" tall and weight approximately 130 pounds.
Officials have released pictures of some of the victim's jewelry and a pair of her shorts. If you recognize any of these, or know anything about this case, you're asked to call the Yakima County Sheriff's Office at 574-2500.
