BENTON COUNTY, Wash.--After an investigation into three fires on I-82, the Benton County Fire Marshal cannot determine a cause.

Earlier Friday (July 11th) afternoon, three fires started at three separate westbound points on the interstate.

One fire started next to the Washington State Patrol Weigh Station, just outside of Umatilla, Oregon.

Firefighters from Umatilla along with an air tanker helped battle the blaze.

Benton County firefighters say the location and timing of Friday's fires are highly unusual.

"The wind had come up," says WSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer, David Robinson. The flames were shooting up, probably 20 feet in the air with smoke over all four lanes of the highway. So, my objective was to get traffic slowed down."

Firefighters were also finishing up at another fire near the Coffin Road exit.

In addition, there was another fire a short distance away near the Beck Road overpass.
