DETROIT, Mich. - After winning two heats, Jeff Bernard sits atop the leadersboard in points going into the final day of racing.

"Unbelievable," said Bernard, who has the most points after one day of racing with his two wins. "That is the second time we have had the points' lead going into the second day and that gives us a good head start."

The crowds that stuck it out through the rain saw some great racing.  All four heat winners averaged 148 mph or better on the 2 1/2-mile Detroit River course and each had a fast lap of 152 mph in each of the heats.

Heat 1A

Jean Theoret and the U-37 Beacon Plumbing opened up the day with a big victory, fighting off gear box problems.  The boat died right after crossing the finish line and had to be towed back to shore, but The U-37 got the win.

The heat was delayed due to weather.  The extra time helped the Schumacher racing team get ready.  "We are so happy for the day," said Theoret. "We were not going to make the first heat (after the gearbox problem) but the weather really helped and the crew was fantastic and we went out there and won."

The U-13 Miss DYC got banged up in Evansville and had to skip Madison to get ready for Detroit.  J. Michael Kelly and the U-13 came out charging and gave Jeff Bernard in the U-5 FormulaBoats.com all he could handle.  Kelly and Bernard battled it out to the end, deck-to-deck going into the final turn before Bernard eked out the win.
