WAPATO, Wash--A family is without a home tonight and the men believed to have started the fire are no where to be found.
Firefighters responded to a mobile home fire yesterday afternoon on Dogwood Road in Wapato. The heat and wind caused the flames to spread to a garage and then the neighboring house.
Two men lived in the trailer while a family occupied the house. They have accepted Red Cross support for now, but their home is a complete loss.
"One of the man over there they were burning garbage and I think it got out of control and into the garage and it started a big old fire and they just left," said Kevin Torres.
Yakima County is still investigating the cause of the fire, but estimates the damage to be around $9,000.
Thirteen fire stations responded with close to 30 firefighters on scene. The fire spread too quickly to save the homes. However, no one was injured.
