KENNEWICK, Wash.- A case that made northwest headlines is now getting national attention with an appearance on Dateline NBC.
The search for convicted drunk driving killer Fred Russell went worldwide.
Friday's edition of Dateline will chronicle the case and how a DUI case suddenly landed Fred Russell on the U.S. Marshal's 15 Most Wanted list.
Fred Russell was convicted last November of the 2002 drunk driving crash that killed three WSU students and injured another on the Pullman-Moscow highway.
Dateline photographers rolled on the entire trial, now Correspondent Keith Morrison will cover the case for Friday's episode.
Karen Overacker's son Brandon Clements was killed in the crash. The newsmagazine sat down with her a couple months back.
"I was really pleased that they were interested enough to film the trial. It's been an easier path to walk with the support I've had," Overacker told KNDU.
Russell fled to Ireland just days before his trial was to begin.
In January, a judge sentenced him to the maximum, about 14 years behind bars.
The story is set to air on Dateline in primetime this Friday night.
