Murder Victim's Body Released To Her FamilyPosted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Nearly two and a half weeks have gone by since the murder of woman, her baby cut out of her. The family finally gets access to her body.
"The body was released last Friday by court order," said Andy Miller, Benton County Prosecutor.
Benton County Prosecutor, Andy Miller, says the judge signed the order of release once the autopsy was completed.
"The defense was able to have their expert review the reports, there was no need for a second autopsy," said Miller.
The Benton County Coroner, Rick Corson says, it's still undetermined whether Gomez died before or after the baby was cut out. He says the official cause of death is exsanguination, or bleeding to death.
Gomez suffered sharp force trauma, or was stabbed in the head, body, arms and legs. Miller says the victim's husband is still devastated by his wife's death, but is hopeful his baby son will survive.
"He's very grateful that his son is improving, and at least that will be one more memory he has of his wife," said Miller.
Friends of the family say the baby is making progress, but is still in a Spokane hospital. Juan Gomez hasn't lost hope.
"Lately I've noticed that he's more calm, because at first he was very worried," said Adelina Cardenas, a friend of the family.
Cardenas says many people have given money and ask about the family often.
"I'm very glad that there are so many people, that have been so generous with him," said Cardenas.
Mueller's Greenlee funeral home in Pasco will be taking care of the services.
