BELFAIR, Wash. (AP) - Mason County sheriff's deputies say they shot and wounded a Belfair, Wash., man after he pointed a gun at them following a truck chase and crash.

The injured man was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after the Friday night shooting. His condition was not known.

Sheriff's spokesman Dean Byrd says deputies were called Friday night by a woman who said she'd spotted her stolen truck in a restaurant parking lot in Belfair. The truck driver had taken off by the time deputies arrived but they soon spotted the truck.

The driver led them on a chase down State Route 300 before he veered off the road, hit a pole and went down an embankment.

After the crash, Byrd says the truck driver jumped out of the vehicle with a handgun pointed at deputies, prompting 2 of them to open fire.

The Thurston County sheriff's office is investigating.
