YAKIMA, Wash--Is your car a hot commodity for thieves? The list of America's most stolen vehicles is out.
Each year the National Insurance Crime Bureau releases their "Hot Wheels" report along with suggestions to protect your vehicle.
This year, the popular 1995 Honda Civic tops the list with the '91 Honda Accord and '89 Toyota Camry following. If you have one of these top three most stolen cars, an easy way to protect it is to install a car alarm. Ring Pro Car Stereo installs at least one car alarm each week.
Pedro Sales, instillation technician noted what cars he sees most often, "Compact cars that teenagers have. Just for the fact that they come in and buy a stereo and then two weeks later they come back saying it got stolen."
To protect your car, NICB suggests trying to make it less attractive to thieves. This can mean simply locking the doors and rolling up the windows. Or if you have a removable radio faceplate, make sure to take it off.
If you install an alarm system, the average price runs between $100 and $500.
