Body of Unidentified Man Recovered from the Yakima River
YAKIMA, Wash-- While floating the Yakima River near Robertson landing today, a couple noticed something stuck in a fallen tree.
After realizing it was a body, they called 911. It took the fire department about a half an hour to bring the body to shore. Deputies couldn't tell how old he was only that he was wearing camouflage pants and a tee-shirt.
The sheriffs office said they've been looking for a Hispanic man who tried to commit suicide a few weeks ago, but at this point they don't know if these two cases are related.
Calvin Slater and his wife found the body, he said, "We came around a log and there's a dead body on the end of it. It was really disgusting, we called 911 and it was pretty bad."
Crews from the Yakima Fire and Police department, East Valley Fire, Yakima County Technical Rescue Team and Yakima County Sheriff's Office deputies and Water Response Team were all there to assist in the recovery.
The identification of the man is pending autopsy by the coroner. The Yakima Sheriffs Office said they do not suspect foul play at this point.
