Other Cases Of C-Section Abductions In The CountryPosted: Updated:
Another community is going through the shock of a pregnant woman being murdered, and her baby cut out.
On Friday, July 18th. police in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania found the body of an 18-year-old woman after her baby was cut out.
38-year-old Andrea Curry-Demus faces homicide and kidnapping charges. Like Phien Sisouvanh, Curry-Demus had been telling her friends she was pregnant. A sign experts say is not unusual.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children says, since 1987 there have been 11 cases of these C-Section abductions.
"They'll say they're pregnant but most of the time it's to hold onto the man in their life. For whatever reason she's not able to or able to carry a baby to term or she's had prior relationships and maybe she's had surgery and she can no longer have children but she'll tell him that she's pregnant," said Cathy Nahirny, Administrative Manager for National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
Nahirny also says, "The abductors in these cases cross all socioeconomic backgrounds, they cross all racial and ethnic backgrounds, if the potential abductor has it in her mind that she has to do this, that she has to get a baby, these women unfortunately will stop at nothing."
Staff at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tell us these cases don't happen very often. But there was a similar case last year in Kansas City, Missouri.
They say it's important for parents who are expecting to be careful of strangers. This national group has been working directly with the Kennewick Police on the case here.
