Poll Shows People In Washington Are Savvy About ID Theft

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- A recent poll by PEMCO insurance, shows people in Washington are some of the most savvy when it comes to identity theft.

The numbers show more than 80% of people already have fire-wall protection on their computers, while more than 70% shred any important documents.

PEMCO says ID theft crimes have been growing in Washington. They get their numbers from law enforcement agencies across the state.

PEMCO says they're glad so many people are being extra careful.

"Personal safety is really important, we're just trying to prevent loses, we're trying to reduce risk, because that benefits everybody," said Jon Osterberg, PEMCO Spokesperson.

But even with many people staying alert, there's always room for improvement. Right now only about 30% of people have a locking mailbox.

That's one thing PEMCO is trying to encourage people to get. PEMCO says one of the reasons why people in our state are savvy about ID theft, is because of media coverage and tips from the Attorney General's office.
