Hanford Mission Support Contract to be Awarded Sep. 30th
HANFORD, Wash-- Thousands of Hanford workers are breathing easier tonight. DOE leaders say they'll award the Mission Support Contract September 30th.
This is a very important contract for Hanford service workers like fire fighters and I.T. staff that run all of the computer databases.
The Department of Energy sent a letter to all Hanford Site employees today. They say they're committed to awarding the contract by this fall.
Currently Fluor Hanford holds the Mission Support Contract. There may be some transitioning when a new contract is awarded.
"We want to reassure them that the benefits and pensions they have that transition will be seamless. Then we want to reassure the community that we know the relationship between the companies and community is important," said Geoff Tyree, U.S. Department of Energy, Richland Operations.
The D.O.E.'s letter today was in response to concerns last week. Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Doc Hastings sent a letter questioning the D.O.E.'s timing of the contract.
It was supposed to be awarded before the Tank Operations and Central Plateau Contracts.
