WSP Lieutenant Compares Boat Races to College Tailgate Party
KENNEWICK, Wash-- The Columbia Cup brings thousands of people to the Tri-Cities, but along with that come more speeders and drunk drivers. The Washington State Patrol aircraft has been flying above I-82 looking for those delinquent drivers.
Troopers waited below the highway for the pilot to give the go ahead. So far this weekend, troopers made ten D.U.I. arrests.
A Washington State Patrol Lieutenant compared boat race weekend to a college football tailgate party.
"That's not uncommon that we see people drinking while they're driving having open containers in their car like I said it's similar to a tailgate party. The party starts before you get to the event."
Even with ten D.U.I. arrests, troopers say Friday is their slow night on boat race weekend. Troopers from as far as Grandview are in town as extra patrols.
