Outdoor Summer Cinema Program Offers Movies in the Park

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash-- A huge inflatable movie screen draws quite the crowd.

Allied Arts and Yakima Parks and Recreation have teamed up to bring theater quality movies outdoors. Their first showing brought over 350 people to the park.

The summer cinema program is in it's second year. Movies will be offered in Randall Park on Fridays and Gilbert Park on Sundays.

Yakima Parks and Rec staff say setting up the big screen is quite the task.

"We get our air generator supply that pushes the air into the screen and it works pretty effectively I'd say. In like 3 to 4 minutes we can get it pretty much 100% inflated," said Robbie Barrany.

Here's a list of movies showing over the next few weeks.

Gilbert Park
July 27th The Neverending Story
Aug 3rd Shark Tale
Aug 10th The Land Before Time
Aug 17th Shrek the Third
Randall Park
Aug 1st The Water Horse
Aug 8th Hoosiers
Aug 15th Apollo 13

Tonight's show is at Gilbert Park at dusk, just bring a canned food donation and something comfy to sit on.
