Vidro Homers, Washburn Pitches 8 Strong Innings, Mariners Snap 7-Game Skid

TORONTO (AP) - Trade rumors may be a distraction for Jarrod
Washburn, but they're not keeping him up at night. They aren't even
getting in the way of nap time. The veteran left-hander curled up
on a clubhouse sofa for his customary pre-game snooze, then pitched
eight strong innings as the Mariners beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-1
Sunday. The victory broke Seattle's seven-game losing streak as
well as Toronto's five-game winning streak. It was Washburn's first
victory in four starts. He benefited from a two-run homer by Jose
Vidro as the Mariners won for the first time since beating
Cleveland 8-2 on July 18. Tonight the Mariners move down to Texas
to open a series with the Rangers. Felix Hernandez is starting for
Seattle and Texas is going with Scott Feldman.
