Eugene pounds Yakima, 10-2

YAKIMA, Wash - David Cooper and Alfredo Marte each had two hits, but the Eugene Emeralds beat the Yakima Bears 10-2 Monday night.

            Marte drove in Brendon Duffy, who tripled to right-centerfield, with an RBI single to center.  However, the Emeralds came back with three in the second on a two-run double by Emmanuel Quiles and a run-scoring passed ball.  Eugene made it 4-1 in the third on an RBI single by Jeudy Valdez.

            Eugene scored three unearned runs in the fifth to make it 7-1, with two coming in on a throwing error by Andrew Fie with two outs, and another run crossing on an RBI single by Dean Anna.  The Emeralds tacked on three more in the seventh on RBI singles by Dan Robertson and Blake Tekote, and an error.

            The Bears host the Emeralds Tuesday night in the finale of the five-game series, with Houston Summers on the mound for Yakima at 7:05 p.m.
