Obama Blasts GOP Economic Policy As `Reckless'

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Barack Obama says he's offering change
from what he calls "reckless" Republican economic policies.
On a campaign swing through Missouri, he says Americans'
economic "anxieties seem to be growing with each passing day." He
says November will give voters the chance to choose a new direction
for the U.S. economy.
He says presidential rival John McCain would continue on the
Republican economic track. Obama also says he wants to cut taxes
for middle-class families.
Obama has been working to address doubts voters may have about
the first black man to make a serious bid for the White House. He's
been spending the day in a southwest Missouri region that generally
votes Republican.
A spokeswoman was blunt in explaining the strategy of
campaigning in areas where voters might be skeptical. She says,
"You have to go into the belly of the beast."
