SEATTLE, Wash. -  David Bryant is OK after going up and over in Heat 2A.

The U-5, U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto/Miss Madison, and U-10 Hoss Mortgage Investors were in lanes 1-3 within a boat length of each other going into the first turn of the second lap.

Bryant hit a roller going into the corner and blew over in the U-10.  The boat flipped upside down.  Bryant quickly scrambled out the escape hatch in the bottom.  He seemed much more upset than hurt.

"I'm fine," said Bryant on KIRO-TV.   "I was hoping for a different interview at the end of the day."

"The boat got unhooked.  Once that happens, nothing I could do."  He was out of the boat quickly.  "I wanted to give the girls on the shore something to cheer about."

"I hit the same roller and for me, it brought the boat back down," said U-6's Steve David on KIRO-TV.  The U-10 wasn't so lucky.

"I didn't have any communication with him after he went upside down," said U-10 crew chief Matt Gregory on KIRO-TV.  "I saw him jump out and he's OK."

"He got a lot of air," said Steve David.  "He got a lot of altitude so hopefully it dissipated the impact.

The hydroplane drivers are a small community and when something happens to one of them, it impacts all of the them.  U-5's Jeff Bernard ran down to the U-10 camp to make sure Bryant was OK.  "The only thing that really matters is that Dave's OK," said Bernard.

The U-5 was in the lead when Bryant flipped and looked like he was going to be a win.  "Sucks for us," Bernard did say.  "We had a heat win there."

"Sorry to Kim Gregory and the U-10 team," said Bernard.  "They've had a lot of bad luck here, and this year the boat was running really fast. "
