Salvation Army Asking for Back to School Donations
RICHLAND, Wash. - We're less than a month away from the new school year, and the Salvation Army needs your help collecting school supplies for about 80 plus children in need.
Purchasing all the required school supplies can be difficult for some parents, especially when more than one child is going to school. For that reason, the Salvation Army, local banks and Fred Meyer are working together to get kids what the need to start school. They need pencils, folders, crayons, glue and any other school supplies you can fit in a backpack.
"When they're on such a low income and fixed income, just that extra dollar for school supplies helps. So they are just overwhelmed with the supplies they do get. That's going to loosen their budget a little bit," said Colleen Miller with Salvation Army.
You can donate school supplies to US Bank, Sterling Bank, Banner Bank, Key Bank, Bank of the West, Washington Mutual and Yakima Federal Bank. They ask that donations be made before August 15th.
In order for a child to receive school supplies, contact the Salvation Army at 509-547-2138 no later than Monday, August, 18th, 2008. Supplies are limited and only four back-packs are allowed per family with school age children.
