Detectives Bust Large Marijuana Grow and Processing Shed in Wapato
WAPATO, Wash- This is the sixth marijuana grow operation in a vineyard. But, the plants seized today were dried, harvested and ready to be sold.
Following up on an anonymous tip LEAD Task Force agents uncovered a huge pot production set-up in Wapato. Agents said that when growing, this vineyard contained around 30,000 marijuana plants.
The plants were already harvested and kept in a large shed on the property. Where workers dried the marijuana and stripped the buds. 150 pounds of processed, ready to sell, pot was found in the house.
"The LEAD task force detectives along with the two Yakima County deputies arrived to see about 15 people fleeing this shed behind me that is just chalk full of the processing of the cultivated marijuana plants," said Sgt. Richard Beghtol, LEAD.
As the workers fled five suspects were taken into custody. Detectives have not yet identified the owners of the property, but agents did receive an anonymous tip about this grow operation.

A reward of up to $5,000 for tips on marijuana grows is offered through the State Patrol, funded by the Marijuana Initiative.
