Grant Worth $10,000, Donations Allows Spokane Pow Wow To Go On

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A $10,000 grant from the city of Spokane
is helping an annual pow wow in the city get back on track.
The event has drawn thousands of visitors to downtown Spokane
for 18 years.
Organizers say they have had trouble raising money for the event
this year, and might have had to cancel it.
Spokane Mayor Mary Verner has encouraged businesses and city
officials to step in with private and public support.
The money for the grant will come from the city's share of
lodging tax revenue.
