EUGENE, Ore. - Anthony Smith hit his fourth homer of the season, but the Eugene Emeralds beat the Yakima Bears 8-3 Saturday night at Civic Stadium.
The Emeralds broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning, highlighted by back-to-back homeruns by Dan Robertson and Sawyer Carroll. Robertson's shot was a three-run homer down the leftfield line, and Carroll blast was a solo shot to right. Blake Tekotte started the scoring with a two-out RBI single to right.
Eugene scored a run in both of the first two innings on sacrifice flies. Matt Clark drove in the game's first run with a sac fly in the first, and Beemer Weems added a sac fly in the second.
The Bears scored their first run in the fourth without the benefit of a hit, as Anthony Smith's groundball to first brought home David Cooper, who reached on one of two Eugene errors in the inning.
Ben Dollar pitched two scoreless innings for Yakima, giving up one hit and striking out one. Joe Ayers had two hits for the Bears.
The Bears take on the Emeralds Sunday afternoon in the finale of the five-game set, with Ian Harrington on the mound for Yakima at 4:05 p.m.
