Tri-City beats Eugene 5-3Posted: Updated:
PASCO, Wash. - Cougar Night at Gesa Stadium had a happy ending Wednesday night as the Tri-City Dust Devils defeated the Eugene Emeralds 5-3. It was the third straight win for the Dust Devils (26-30) over the Emeralds (29-27), which is a dramatic change of fortunes for the two teams, as the Emeralds had won five straight and the Dust Devils had lost five in a row prior to the series.
With the score tied at one going into the fifth, the Dust Devils exploded for four runs on six hits in the bottom half of the frame. Chad Lembeck, Charlie Blackmon, Erik Wetzel, and Jordan Pacheco hit consecutive singles to start the inning, and after a Johnny Bowden walk Chris Vasami and Ryan Peisel hit singles of their own.
Wetzel ended the night with two hits, including the Dust Devils' only extra-base hit, a first inning double. Vasami and Peisel also had a pair of hits.
A sextet of Tri-City pitchers made appearances on the night, with Tyler Trice (1-0) receiving credit for the win after pitching a scoreless eighth inning, while Austin Chambliss earned his league-leading eleventh save. Eugene starter Simon Castro took the loss after giving up all five runs and nine of Tri-City's eleven hits in four innings pitched.
