After getting pounded by the Dust Devils offense for four straight nights, the Eugene Emeralds finally silenced the Tri-City bats and avoided the sweep by defeating the Dust Devils 3-0 on Friday night at Gesa Stadium.
Dust Devils hitters were unable to get anything going Friday against the Eugene (30-28) pitching staff. Emeralds starting pitcher Erik Davis lasted only 3 2/3 innings but allowed only one hit and struck out six. The bullpen picked up from there and held the Dust Devils (27-31) to just two hits over the final five innings. Rob Musgrave earned the win in relief, his sixth of the season.
Christian Friedrich made his seventh start of the season for the Dust Devils and despite a strong outing, took the loss in Friday's contest. Friedrich (2-1) pitched five innings, allowed just one run, and struck out eight.
Carlos Luna and Sean Jarrett combined to keep the Emeralds scoreless until the ninth inning when Eugene added two insurance runs off Drew Coffey.
Charlie Blackmon, Scott Robinson, and Ryan Peisel provided the only offense for the Dust Devils as they each finished the night 1 for 3.
The Dust Devils will continue their homestand tomorrow night as the Yakima Bears make their first visit to Gesa Stadium. A postgame fireworks show will follow the game courtesy of DaVita.
