East Valley Football Preview: Replacing a Leader

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Last year, East Valley's Kevin Komstadius was a leader on and off the field. But, he graduated leaving a big hole on the team.

Senior tight end Taylor Klein says, "He's a tremendous athlete, the best athlete I've ever played with. It was a privilege to play with him for so many years."

When you lose a player as good as Kevin Komstadius, the question is, how do you replace him? Coaches tell me the answer is quite simple, you work with what you have.

Klein says, "We're working in a lot more run. I guess our receiving game will not be as big this year."

The guy that will take over for Komstadius is senior Jordan Cameron, who says he is not to worried about running the new offense.

Cameron says, "I think it's really easier for me because you don't have to worry about all the pass reads as much but it's still something I need to work on."

Coach Barry Reifel says along with losing Komstadius, the Red Devils are only returning 8 starters, leaving a lot of room for younger players to step up.

Reifel says, "I expect them to have an empty cup and be ready to learn and get better every day."

TheRed Devils quest to succed without Komstadius starts September 5th against arch-rival West Valley.
