YAKIMA, Wash. -- Houston Summers pitched a strong seven innings, but the Boise Hawks beat the Yakima Bears 3-1 Monday night at Yakima County Stadium.
Drew Rundle's two-out two-run homerun to right in the third proved to be the difference in the game. Summers otherwise kept the Hawks off the board the rest of the way, giving up two runs through seven innings. He scattered seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
The Bears scored their lone run on Andrew Fie's two-out RBI double off the right-field wall. Brendan Duffy had two hits in his return to the line-up from a wrist injury.
Ryan Flaherty added a solo homerun in the ninth for an insurance run.
The Bears travel to Boise for a three-game series beginning Tuesday night at 6:15 p.m., with Ian Harrington on the mound for Yakima.
