Three Central Wildcats make Preseason All-American Team

Posted: Updated:

LIBERTY, Mo. - Three Central Washington University football players have added another accolade to their resumes, as seniors Mike Reilly, Jared Bronson and junior Johnny Spevak  were all named to the Preseason All-American Teams, announced Tuesday. Reilly and Bronson are first-team selections, while Spevak is a second-team pick.

In addition to the individual accolades, the Wildcat squad is ranked 11th in the Preseason Poll, also released Tuesday.

For all three Wildcat student-athletes, the preseason accolades are nothing new this summer. Both Reilly and Bronson were recognized as preseason All-Americans by Lindy's College Football Annual, including Reilly's selection as the preseason Offensive Player of the Year for Division II. Spevak, meanwhile, was previously tabbed a preseason All-American by The Sporting News in its publication.

The Wildcats' offensive trio will help lead nationally-ranked Central Washington into its season opener this Saturday (Aug. 30) at Dixie State College of Utah. Central is listed 11th in the preseason poll -- the same ranking they were given in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II poll released last Tuesday (Apr. 19).

Only one of Central Washington's 2008 scheduled opponents is ranked in the preseason poll, as Mesa State (Colo.), the Wildcats' home-opening opponent on Sept. 6, is ranked 21st. Four opposing players on the 2008 ledger also received preseason All-American status from Tuesday, with two players from Mesa State -- first-team kicker Jared Keating and second-team defensive back Brandon Waymire -- and one each from Dixie State (second-team offensive lineman Ryan DelRosal) and Western Oregon (second-team linebacker J.T. Gilmore). All-American Teams: Preseason Top 25 Poll:
