Kennewick Police Open 18-Year-Old Time Capsule

KENNEWICK, Wash. - While Kennewick Police are enjoying their new building, some are still having a hard time letting go of the old one.

Kennewick Police Officers removed a plaque from outside the entrance of the old building on Dayton Street.  Behind the plaque there was a time capsule from the dedication in 1990.  Inside was a key to the city along with the 1990 city budget.

It brought back a flood of memories for retired Police Chief Bob Farnkoff who helped make the time capsule 18 years ago.

"We had just moved in it from City Hall and at that time we had overgrown the building.  At the time there just wasn't adequate space anymore so when we got in here, we were really pleased to have the facility where we could spread out and get our work done," said Chief Farnkoff

The plaque was moved to the new building around the corner from the old.  Since 1990 the number of officers has doubled to almost one hundred.
